Privacy Policy

Effective October 29, 2026 · Last updated October 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Wilderness Distillery LLC, doing business as Bird Creek Distillery and Bird Creek Whiskey (“Bird Creek,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use Field Notes, our tasting app, including the website at whiskeyfieldnotes.netlify.app, any version you add to your home screen, and related emails (the “Service”). We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. Please also read our Terms of Use.

Information collected automatically

CategoryWhat it includes
Approximate locationCity, state or region, country, postal area and time zone, derived by our hosting provider from your internet connection’s IP address, and coordinates rounded to roughly 10 kilometers (about 6 miles). We do not collect precise location and never ask for your device’s GPS. We do not store your IP address with your account or tasting notes.
Device informationDevice type (phone, tablet or computer), operating system, browser family, screen width, language, time zone, and whether you opened the app from your home screen.
App activityActions in the Service and when they happened, such as opening the app, the screens you view, starting and saving a pour, how long a pour took, reaching the guest limit, signing up or in, sharing, sending invitations or tasting cards, and tapping “Buy this bottle,” “Find in stores” or “Join the club.”
IdentifiersA random device identifier stored in your browser, a session identifier, and a sign-in cookie. These are not linked to your name unless you sign in.
How you arrivedThe invite code, campaign tags (such as utm_source) or referring website in the link you used to reach the Service.

Information from others. When a friend invites you, we receive your email address from them so we can send the invitation. If you join through a friend’s link, we note their invite code so we can credit the invitation.

Sensitive information. We use your date of birth only to confirm your age and to understand our audience by age range. We do not collect precise geolocation or other sensitive categories of personal information.

02How we use information

03How we share information

We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or let other companies use it for their own marketing. We share it only as follows:

04Cookies, browser storage and similar tools

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in (it lasts up to 120 days, or until you sign out). We also store a few items in your browser’s local storage: a random device identifier, how you arrived, how many guest pours you have used, and your in-progress notes. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics trackers or social media pixels. You can clear cookies and storage in your browser settings, though doing so will sign you out and reset guest counts on that device.

Browser privacy signals. Because we do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, there is nothing to opt out of; we nonetheless treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a valid opt-out request.

05Emails

We send service emails you request (tasting cards, password resets) and invitations a friend asks us to send. We send marketing emails only if you opt in, and every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link and our mailing address. You can also opt out by changing your answer in My palate → About you or by writing to us.

07Your choices

08Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including Oregon, California, Washington, Colorado and other states with consumer privacy laws, you may have the right to:

How to make a request. Use the in-app tools above, or email info@birdcreekwhiskey.com with the subject “Privacy request.” We will verify your identity, usually by confirming the email address on your account, and respond within 45 days. If we need more time (up to another 45 days), we will tell you why. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof of their authority and confirm your identity directly.

Appeals. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with the subject “Privacy appeal.” We will respond within 60 days (45 days in some states). If you are not satisfied, you may contact your state attorney general. In Oregon, that is the Oregon Department of Justice.

California residents. In the past 12 months we have collected the categories of information described in Section 1: identifiers, personal characteristics (age), commercial information (purchase interest), internet activity, approximate geolocation, and inferences about your flavor preferences. We collect them for the purposes in Section 2 and disclose them only to the recipients in Section 3. We do not sell or share personal information and have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing information of anyone under 16.

09Security

We protect information with encryption in transit (HTTPS), passwords stored as salted scrypt hashes, signed and HTTP-only sign-in cookies, limits on repeated sign-in attempts, and an admin key that restricts staff tools. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a unique password and tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized access. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

10Age requirement

The Service is only for people 21 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21, and we never knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe someone under 21 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11Where information is processed

Bird Creek is based in Oregon, and the Service is intended for users in the United States. Our providers store and process information in the United States and may use facilities in other countries. By using the Service, you understand your information will be processed in the United States.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service or the law changes. We will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date. If we make a material change, especially to how we use or share personal information, we will notify members in the app or by email before it takes effect and, where required, ask for your consent.
